I am a dreamer and creative thinker. I am an artist at heart, but I never fully forget that one cannot live on art alone. I struck a balance by pursuing a career in publishing, helming the art departments of more than a dozen magazines over the years. I particularly enjoyed Motorcycle Cruiser, where I got to ride bitch on road trips for photo shoot purposes, and Flex magazine because I was always surrounded by big, strong men.
During my tenure as an art director, I also moonlighted as a Bellydancer. My love of the dance led me to travel to the Middle East on more than one occasion. I fell in love with the people of the Sudan and nearly went broke shopping in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Before COVID, I was still dancing and teaching others to dance in early-morning classes at the YMCA.
I wrote my first screenplay when a museum exhibit sparked a story idea. That script and several of my other scripts have been optioned. Anxious to see my work up on the big screen, I wrote, directed and produced two short films, both screening at film festivals. In 2014, I wrote and produced my first feature-length film entitled What’s Eating Todd?, which is currently in distribution by Indican Pictures.
Also in 2014, I won the Golden Quill Award (first place) at the Annual Tehachapi Playwright’s Festival forms short play “Whatever Works.” Since then, I have penned three novels, Crooked Road, inspired by a friend’s battles with Huntington’s Disease and One. Cray! Year., loosely pulling from my travels in Turkey. My third novel, Diary of an Odalisque, set in the Turkish Royal Harem, is still in the polishing stage.
I see the magic and possibility in all things, and for this reason, my husband has strongly requested I refrain from visiting thrift stores or the downtown fabric district.
